ABOUT US

Not all Martial Arts Associations are the same. With over 110 years of knowledge and experience between them, Instructors Garry, Jake, Scott and Brett have created an association that focuses on the individual and community spirit. Amalgamating a mixture of different Martial Art styles, arising from the common lineage of traditional Karate and Ju-Jitsu and adding elements of Kickboxing, Boxing and Weaponry. Students can benefit from different forms of training as well as bridge the gap between traditional karate and reality based martial arts. It’s a more modern and inclusive approach.

Our Story

Gisborne Mixed Martial Arts originally started as a non-profit association and continued to dedicate its training in the “Bushido” spirit, or the “Way of the Warrior” as it is referred to in Japan.

The Japanese Characters (below) literally translates to:
“Gi Zu Bon Budo Kai” which simply means
“Gisborne Martial Arts Association”.

“Budo” means fighting or Martial Art,

“Bushi” means Warrior,

“Bushido” is as above, Martial Art Warrior

The Club was originally started in 1999, mainly due to a break up of a former Martial Arts club in the Macedon area. Some concerned Parents encouraged the set-up of a school to continue their Children’s Martial Arts development and training. What you see today is the result of this idea. Having grown bigger over the years, the implementation of more classes, on more nights means we are able to accommodate for this.

Alternatively, we also offer our Cardio Based Classes, which is a dynamic spin on a regular gym workout. These incorporate the use of padded mitts and bags, plus a range of applications and drills to achieve improvements in physical fitness, stamina, core strength, agility and flexibility.
