About the Class

At GMMA, our Senior Karate Class embodies the core values of the Bushido Way: Integrity, Respect, Courage, Honour, Compassion, Honesty and Loyalty. This class aims to focus on refining your technique and expanding your understanding and knowledge of traditional Go-ju style karate fundamentals. It’s a journey of Self-Mastery and Self-Awareness, while heavily utilising elements of Kickboxing, Boxing, Ju-Jitsu and Weaponry styles to help diversify each class and improve technique.

This class ranges from young teenagers and adults, to adults of 40 years and above. Anyone from any background and ability level, is given the chance to boost confidence and fitness levels, through a variety of solo, partner and group exercises. Students notice improvements in mood, ability to focus, breathing, and inner strengths within.

Many parent students initiate their own karate journey after seeing their child enjoying the benefits of karate. Senior class gives the opportunity to share the experience and interest together. It helps to develop strong bonds and deep respect between both parent and child. Joy and excitement is shared in the successes of achieving the next belt rank.

Gisborne Mixed Martial Arts Centre, provides a safe, well matted training area for our students and all the necessary sparring equipment needed to undertake instructed exercises. Students are urged to obtain required safety gear such as mouth-guards, gloves and shinguards. At GMMA, we utilise padded bags and mitts during classes as part of our training structure, as we incorporates elements of kickboxing and boxing. We also include unique drills and demonstrate the power of these techniques in a safe and controlled manner.

Weaponry is incorporated in our syllabus and for our students safety, are made of wood. Any class involving these are only ever undertaken when one of our experienced instructors is present and able to teach the safe way of handling and defending against such items.
